Volvo’s aim is that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car. But why stop there, if Volvo can also save lives outside the car?
Challenge
In case of cardiac arrest, resuscitation within 6 minutes can make the difference between life and death. But the average arrival time of an ambulance is more than 9 minutes. Often, help arrives too late. With thousands of Volvos on the road, there’salways one nearby. So why not extend Volvo’s goal to save lives to the people outside their cars?
Idea
We launched Volvo Lifesaver: Volvo cars equipped with an AED, connected to the national call system for resuscitation. Emergency calls are automatically sent to the car. Together with Hartslag.nu, Volvo asked for volunteers to start a pilot. In only two weeks’ time 200 drivers were equipped and trained to respond quickly to emergency calls.
Results
This initiative resulted in 16 million views, exceeding expectations by nearly a thousand percent, even making national and international headlines. But more importantly; the program is already saving lives. With 15 people resuscitated by volunteers so far.
